I am a Christian because my experiences made me one. I read the Bible to learn about God and His relationship with people, but my experiences made me want to do that. So, I come to the Bible with full knowledge of it's limitations. And it is limited. The writers and editors of the Bible were inspired - they were not perfect. They wrote what they believed to be true, with the knowledge they had and within the confines of their time/place. Context matters.

Your questions are valid - and have debated by believers, in good faith, for centuries. The Jews are a lot better at arguing about, and analyzing scripture than Christians. I have learned quite a lot from the Jews' approach.

Psalm 1 says "Happy are those

who do not follow the advice of the wicked,

or take the path that sinners tread,

or sit in the seat of scoffers;

(2) but their delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law they meditate day and night." (NRSV)

Meditating day and night, or at least occasionally, must include questioning, wrestling, struggling to figure out what the hell is going on.

I haven't answered any of your questions. I wouldn't if I could because I wouldn't want to deprive you of finding your own answers.

Peace be with you.
