I basically agree, but I would add that if Christians read the OT with Jesus in mind, it is a different story. God is not an angry tyrant in the OT - He is constantly attempting to meet people where they are, accept their failings and move on. There is little that God won't forgive - much to the frustration of Jonah. for one.

Jesus is the culmination of the Bible, and He is present in the entire story.
