I hit stage 6 in my 40s. I was perfectly content with my free-floating spirituality and then I was called to ministry in the Lutheran church. It was that specific. Now I'm about to start seminary to become a deacon in the ELCA.

I believe part of the reason for my call is my willingness to shake things up. I have every intention of disrupting the church - to make it more open, inclusive and active in service and social justice. I still believe that all spiritual paths are good. I just happen to have been called to Christianity.

You're absolutely right about church. It does hold people at a certain stage. But it is also a life-giving community - or can be.
