Tolkien wrote fantasy. It's normal for fantasy to be open to interpretation - so I don't argue with people who say that there are queer elements in LOTR, even though I don't see them myself. If you want Frodo and Sam to be gay, have at it.

Tolkien was certainly a Christian - how devout he was is between him and God.
